SeaTech Year 1

SeaTech Year 1

Exploring Marine Science

SeaTech Year 1 continues to foster excitement and love of the ocean! Members in 8th and 9th grade can join and participate in nine months of meetings that advance their depth of understanding by building on the skills and knowledge developed in Ultimate Oceans. SeaTech Year 1 members are engaged in a number of projects and field trips that develop teamwork and workplace skills. In addition, members build Web sites that communicate their SeaTech experiences. Through direct contact with scientists, members learn about and begin to visualize themselves in realistic marine and science careers.

During SeaTech Year 1, members:

- participate in field trips to the Ocean Institute, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and aboard research vessels;
- design and build scientific equipment, such as hydrophones; and
- develop Web sites that communicate their SeaTech experiences.
